Louisiana State University
At Louisiana State University (LSU), the only thing that competes with the depth of passion Tiger fans have for their team is the breadth of academic offerings at the school. From passing Mike the Tiger’s Habitat on the way to tailgate to getting hands-on engineering experience at the cutting-edge PERTT Lab, LSU offers its students experiences they can’t get anywhere else. As one of only 24 universities nationwide to hold land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant designations, LSU is a hub of innovation and research that spans from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of space. It’s also one of just eight universities in the country to boast a comprehensive academic health center, featuring a law school, dental school, medical school, veterinary school, and an elite MBA program—all under one roof. Whether you’re drawn to our top-ranked landscape architecture program or the world-renowned Center for Internal Auditing, LSU has a field of study for everyone. With a legacy of excellence both on and off the field, LSU is where tradition meets opportunity, and where students are empowered to achieve greatness in every endeavor.
Southern University
Southern University has a proud tradition as one of the most impactful HBCUs in the country. Located on the scenic Bluff along the Mississippi River, Southern is the only HBCU university system in the United States. The university graduates more Black engineers than nearly any school in the country, solidifying its place as a top producer of Black engineers nationwide. It’s also home to The Human Jukebox, a world-renowned marching band that brings energy and pride to every performance. Southern’s commitment to accessibility and excellence extends to its academic offerings, including the region’s only part-time, evening law school, which allows mid-career professionals to upskill without leaving their current roles. Adding to its accolades, the Southern University School of Nursing was recently voted the Best Nursing School in the United States by Nurse.org. From its groundbreaking nursing program to its leadership in engineering and its vibrant campus culture, Southern University continues to shape futures and empower communities, proving why it remains a cornerstone of excellence in the Capital Region’s higher education landscape.
